My childhood arch enemy
Her name was Amy McKee. It was down to her and me in the school spelling bee. My word: "white". I spelled it correctly, but because of nerves I faltered when I said the letter "e" so they thought I didn't say it. BUT I DID. They said I spelled it incorrectly, and gave her the trophy while tears streamed down my cheeks. She looked so smug. That was the one and only time my mother ever came to my school during a school function - to watch me lose the spelling bee to that little goody-two-shoes.
